Aa Dinagalu directed by debutant director Chaithanya is not a run of the mill gangster story that is getting released in the Kannada film industry these days. It is a film that makes every Kannada film fan proud. Aa Dinagalu is an aesthetically directed film with an authentic presentation. The director has not glorified the underworld personalities as is the case in every other gangster film, but has taken care to present the film without any exaggeration and in an objective approach. It is difficult to believe that this is Chaithanya's first film. He has used his human and material resources to make a good film which presents a different plateau. His sincerity in presentation comes good on many occasions on the screen. Chaithanya is certainly geared up to make still better films in the Kannada film industry.

Aa Dinagalu is based on a real life incident that occurred during 1986 when Bangalore Underworld was ruled by two notorious dons Kothwal Ramachandra and Jayaraj. A youngster is in love with a girl which is not taken too kindly by her parents. The father of the girl takes the help of Kothwal Ramachandra to stall this marriage and threaten the youngster who loves his daughter. Then the youngster and his friends take on the powerful Kothwal lobby on their own. The youngster and his friends will not hesitate to take the help of another don Jayaraj. What happens later. If you are looking for blood splitting fights, sword and sickle struggles and all that you may well be disappointed. What you see on the screen is a realistic account of the tension and the gangster supremacy war that goes on later coupled with some punching dialogues.

Yes, Aa Dinagalu is a fine blend of artistic values and an interesting narration which makes it a commercially viable project. The film has been helped by some top performances of artists like Atul Kulkarni, Ashish Vidyarthi and Sharath Lohithashwa. Both Vidyarthi and Sharath have lived the roles of Jayaraj and Kothwal. It is time that Kannada film industry uses the full potential of an artist of the caliber of Sharath Lohithashwa. He needs more breaks like Aa Dinagalu. Chethan and Archana, the new artists on the block are fresh and convincing.

The technical crew has given the best support to the director. Ilayaraja's masterly background score elevates the quality of the film. Sihi Gaali is a well composed and shot song. Cameraman H.C.Venu shows his brilliance behind the camera. And again Sridhar takes full credit for the quality of dialogues which are refreshing and apt to the script.

Aa Dinagalu is one of the better quality Kannada films that are sure to make an impact with the audience. Its appeal is largely to the class audience, though the subject is certain to infuse some interest in the mass audience. But the film is bound to be lapped up by both class and the mass audience.
