Varanam Aayiram Tamil Movie
Varaanam Ayiram (thousand elephants) is an emotional film, with quite a predictable story line. Surya, in one of his finest performances keeps the audience intact in his twin role of father and son.
The movie with its star cast package is complete. The story unfolds in the form of a biography of Surya (Surya). Surya traces back to his life history, narrating about how his father Krishnan (Surya in a father's role) raised him and how much of motivation and support he offered him throughout his life. The various incidences in his life depict Krishnan as a picture perfect father- right from advising his son not to smoke and showing him to the path of independence. In different nuances, the movie jumps from one incident to another as Surya grows up, lives in a hostel, and witnesses his father's struggle in life.
Then the movie moves to Surya's relationship to Meghna (Sameera Reddy), the lady love from the day he meets her in a train on his way back home.
The story is weaved into one with different experiences in phases of Surya's life. There are some disconnects which makes the movie dragging, more so, in the second half of the movie. High voltage emotional drama is the word for the movie. Some streaks of comedy, gives the movie a breather, but on the flip side, the movie drags, making it difficult for the audience to remain glued to the screen. The movie could have been edited better.
The music by Harris Jeyaraj is splendid with the extensive use of the guitar in the songs. Surya, in his electrifying performance is at his best, giving the characters its complete justice. Sameera Reddy pairs well with Surya but have a very short-lived role which fades away. Simran shines in her natural and poised performance as a mother, wife and lover. The movie can definitely not be termed as a not-to-be-missed movie, for it could have been better definitely!
