Maalik Ek Hindi Movie
If you are a Sai Baba follower you might have waited for this film. And in that case you may just hate what I have to reveal next - It is best to overlook this film.
Sai Baba has millions of follower and the wish to tell a story about him is probably a something many nourish. Deepak Balraj Viij just got luckier with resources. This one is his second movie on the saint's life and in no way does he do justice to the subject.
In the film Dwarka Mai (Smriti Irani) narrates the heroics of the saint while Laxmi (Divya Dutta) listens. But nothing about the story seems authentic. The music, which usually is a draw in devotional movies, is a huge let down too.
It's also agonizing to see someone who has been in the industry for so long making such a bad product technically. The least you could expect is a proper dubbing and lip sync. When such basic filmmaking aspects go for toss you can only expect same in every other department. There is no detailing of character and settings, the narrative is random, camera goes off-focus at times, editing cuts are bizarre... the list is endless.
Jackie Shroff comes back to screen after long and though he tries hard the story and narrative betrays him. Smriti Irani and Divya Dutta are no good. And how can we forget the fact that Maalik Ek is the launch pad of the director's son Varun! Even actors like Zarina Wahab and Govind Namdeo are wasted.
In certain ways Maalik Ek is actually similar to Deepak's earlier films. They always have a good idea but poor execution. How we wish he had rather used the resources to do something more substantial! Probably he was banking on Sai Baba to come alive and show miracle on screen. Maalik Ek won't enlighten or entertain.
