"School Master" has come after its lead actor Vishnuvardhan's death three weeks ago. This is Vishnuvardhan's 199th film. Directed by Dinesh Baboo, it also stars award winning actress Suhasini Mani Ratnam.

In the light of the situation, it would be difficult not to get emotional about the movie and analyse it objectively. But still one thing has to be said about the film that it certainly has one of the best performances by late Vishnuvardhan as well as Suhasini.

But the story lacks freshness and doesn't have space for innovative ideas. Dinesh Baboo, who made several good films with the superstar, hasn't tried to strengthen the technical aspects by providing it a cutting edge.

Despite all the flaws, the film engages the audience mainly because of the magnetic presence of Vishnuvardhan who has given an awesome performance in the title role of a school master who is an expert in Kalari fighting.

Dinesh Baboo has tried to tighten the script, but there are many sequences that lack logic. The climax is heart rending, but it also lacks logic.

Another weak point of the film is the music, which is just average. Even the cinematography is not up to the mark.

Though the theme is contemporary, the director has not made it in the present style.

The film shows the revenge of a father to kill those who are responsible for his child's death

Suhasini has matched Vishnuvardhan's histrionics in many sequences. Devaraj as the police officer looks natural in the role. Avinash, Mukesh Rishi and Dharma have done a good job in their respective roles.

Among the songs, it is Lagori song which is appealing.

The kalari fight sequences are well-choreographed.

"School Master" is an intense drama that boasts of an outstanding performance by Vishnuvardhan. His fans will like it immensely. It is a family-oriented film and would be enjoyed by all.
