Ideal Couple Malayalam Movie
The time of the year has already arrived, when you watch a film and wonder if you have finally experienced the nadir of film viewing. To be precise, I'm talking of a film called 'Ideal Couple', the biggest USP of which is Thilakan.
The couple in question is played by Usha Uthup and Nassar, who enact the roles of Sophy and her husband Nambiar. They win some reality show as the best couple on TV, and Aashaan (Thilakan), an ex-burglar and his team, plan a final operation to loot them of the prize money.
There is little about this film that I can actually remember, except vague, disconnected conversations here and there, like the ones that you hear at chat sessions where all the friends sound bored and dropping off to sleep. These rambling dialogues are what make up most of the film and there is not one dialogue in the entire two hours that you would carry back home with you.
The story is equally depressing in the sense; it has very little that would enthuse a viewer. Aashaan is forced to do the unthinkable because of an invalid grand daughter who lies waiting on bed for a surgery that would have her walking again. It's only with a shudder that we realize that at least a few Malayalam films are yet to escape from the disease - surgery syndrome.
And where are the production values? The print that I got to see looked like it was drained of light with a yellow glare cast all over. These days, with even television sitcoms maintaining an extremely high standard of production values, its appalling that films get made thus!
Thilakan is undoubtedly one of the best actors that we have amidst us today, but I totally fail to understand the point he is trying to make by acting in films as these. As a genuine admirer of the veteran actor, I would prefer to remember him for the innumerable roles that he has immortalized, and forget the ones as in 'Ideal Couple' as a bad dream that never happened. Thilakan has done a gross injustice to himself by being in a film as this.
And what on earth are actors as Usha Uthup and Nassar doing here? How does someone coerce these actors to be a part of a film as this by flashing the flimsy script that they have at hand? The less said about Vineeth and the rest of the cast, the better.
The tagline of the film goes 'the ultimate romantic saga' or something on those lines. One can only shake one's head in disbelief and walk quietly away after having sat through a couple of hours of the ideal couple antics! Unbelievable Couple indeed!
