Aamir Khan's Dangal rules China, mints Rs. 1000 crore

One can safely say that Aamir Khan has a midas touch as every project he gets associated with is bound to turn into gold. The latest being his critically acclaimed biographical sports drama — ‘Dangal.’


The film, where Aamir essayed the role of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat made over Rs. 511 crore in India and now Dangal has also managed to create a landmark in China by becoming the 33rd film in Chinese cinema history to cross one billion RMB, which in Indian currency amounts to almost Rs.1000 crore.


‘Dangal’ was released in China on 9,000 screens on 5th May 2017 and is still reigning the Chinese box office. What’s more the movie's screening license has been extended for a month. The Amir Khan blockbuster will now be screened in China till July 4, 2017. This may enable the movie to reach the 2000 crore mark.


Talking about the success of ‘Dangal’ in Chinese market, Aamir said to a popular news agency, “While we were hoping that Dangal connects with the people of China, not in our wildest dreams we thought that this is the kind of connect we would have. It was unprecedented. We are pleasantly surprised. The reason it has become so huge, according to me, in China is that they connected on an emotional level with the story, the characters and the moments.”


With its extended screening license, 'Dangal' is expected to make about Rs.2000 crore in China.
