Actor and director R C Shakthi passes away

Film maker and actor R C Shakthi passed away yesterday, the 23rd February at a private hospital in Chennai. He was seventy five years old and is survived by a son and two daughters. His last directorial venture was Pathini Penna in 1993 which fetched him two State awards for best film and best dialogue writer. In his decade long career, Shakthi had directed 17 films.


Shakthi was very close to Kamal Haasan and it was he who introduced Kamal Haasan in his film Unarchigal. Kamal considers him as his mentor and Shakthi was one of a very few close friends in Kamal’s circle. He has also worked with Rajinikanth in Dharma Yuddham. He went on to direct some critically acclaimed films like Manidharil Ithanai Nirangala and Amma Pillai.


On his condolence message Kamal said that Shakthi was his family member, an artist, a friend and also a top notch fan of his. A teary eyed, emotion laden Kamal said that he has to come to terms with Shakthi's demise very slowly.
