Alfonso Cuaron wins best director award at DGA

Los Angeles, Jan 26 (IANS) Filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron took home the best director trophy for his movie "Gravity" at the 66th annual Directors Guild of America (DGA) awards.


Hosted by Jane Lynch, the awards gala was held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza here Saturday.


Cuaron defeated Paul Greengrass ("Captain Phillips"), Steve McQueen ("12 Years A Slave"), David O. Russell ("American Hustle") and Martin Scorsese ("The Wolf of Wall Street") to win the top honour, reports variety.com.


Featuring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, "Gravity" was about a medical engineer and an astronaut who work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space.
