Oct 4, 2016 Shweta Kulkarni

Demands for ban, ugly accusations, controversial open letters, friendly flirting, achievements and what not… The whole month of September in B-Town felt like a roller coaster ride and it was indeed a month to remember with its share of attention grabbers.

We bring to you a list of these newsmakers of September 2016, who ruled the headlines.

Salman Khan

There is a reason why he is known as controversy’s favorite child. Somehow or the other, the Tubelight actor, Salman Khan always finds himself in the midst of controversies.

This time around, it was his statement that came after the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) issued an ultimatum for all Pakistani artists to leave the country in the wake of URI attacks and even proposed a ban on all Pakistani artists in India.

Salman, when asked to share his thoughts on it, said, “They are artists. We have killed the terrorists. Artists are not terrorists. These are two different subjects. They come to our country after acquiring visa, and it’s our government who allows them with the work permit in our country.”

Well, as usual, the Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor was misconstrued and started getting a lot of flak from various quarters, some called him a Pakistani supporter, an anti-national etc.

Needless to say, the Sultan is still ruling the news.

Katrina Kaif

Salman’s ex, Katrina Kaif too makes it to this list this month for an award that she received recently.

While awards usually bring in praises, the Baar Baar Dekho actress raised alarms on social media after it was announced that she would be honored with the Smita Patil Memorial Award for her contribution to cinema.

As soon as the news broke out, social media went berserk and started trolling Katrina. Many even mocked the selectors for choosing the actress for the award and felt that she is undeserving for an Award of this stature.

Well, that’s not all; the ex-couple even hogged the limelight when Yash Raj Films announced their next project — Tiger Zinda Hai starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.

Priyanka Chopra

This girl is on a roll and we love every bit of what she has to offer.

This time around our desi girl made it to the news with her princessy moment at the Emmy’s as she twirled in that ravishing red train gown and won our hearts.

And, of course, not a single soul missed that healthy fun flirting with Hollywood actor Tom Hiddleston either.

It was enough to keep this Quantico actress in news not just for a month, but for months to come.

She is our perfect newsmaker.

Tannishtha Chatterjee

Another actress who hogged the media space last month was the Parched actress – Tannishtha Chatterjee, and, no, it was not for the bold content of her film but for a rather bold move in real life.

The actress, who was recently on the reality show Comedy Nights Bachao to promote her movie, stormed off the set mid-show when the comedians started making deriding comments about her being dark-skinned.

The actress later wrote a powerful post on her facebook page, talking about the incident and the country’s obsession with white skinned people.

Attagirl!

Karan Johar-Ajay Devgn – KRK

This trio and their controversy clearly wins the newsmakers of the month trophy.

While it was not enough that Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay was clashing at the box-office, the two biggies got further embroiled in an ugly controversy when Ajay released an audio recording of Kamal Rashid Khan (KRK), where KRK admitted to having taken 25 lakhs from Karan Johar to praise ADHM and trash Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay.

Reportedly, Devgn suspected that KRK was up to no good when he suddenly started to talk ill about Shivaay and was all praises for Johar’s upcoming film. Devgn even issued an official statement demanding probe if Johar was indeed involved in the matter.

However, Karan only said, “My self-respect, reputation, company reputation and my upbringing doesn’t allow me to dignify this question with a response.”

Amitabh Bachchan

Just before the release of his hard-hitting film – Pink, which makes a strong comment on women empowerment, Sr. Bachchan wrote a heartfelt open letter to his granddaughters Aaradhya and Navya Naveli.

In the letter, he spoke about how they should embrace their womanhood and make decisions for themselves.

However, this beautifully written letter didn’t go well with many people who thought it was a publicity stunt for his forthcoming film.

That’s not all, the megastar once again made it to the headlines, when Justice Markandey Katju's criticized him and said he has nothing inside his head. To which Big B replied, “He (Katju) is right I don't have anything inside my mind. He is right...My head is 'khalas' (finished),”

Finally, the megastar silenced everyone with his fantastic performance in Pink, and yes, yet again became the talk of the town.

Deepika Padukone

She is all out there to conquer Hollywood too, and it’s not just us who are saying this but even popular international glossies.

First it was the xXx: Return of Xander Cage actress’ appearance on the cover of Paper magazine that sent the media back home into a frenzy and then Deepika once again made everyone sit up and take notice of her when she made it to Forbes' top 10 highest paid actresses of the world while Priyanka Chopra failed to make the mark.

Deepika Padukone is not just India’s top-paid actress, she is also among the top 10 highest-paid actresses in the world, according to Forbes. The actress is the only Indian on the list with earnings of $10 million.
