Kunal keen on commercial films with twist

Mumbai, Nov 10 (IANS) Actor Kunal Kapoor wants to be choosy in picking his movies. He says he wants to be part of commercial films with the sensibilities of independent cinema.

"I only understand that there is good film and a bad film. I don't know what art and commercial films are, but as far as I am concerned, if I am going to spend so much time on a film, then I want to reach as many people as possible. I don't want to be part of niche films unless it's damn exciting," Kunal told IANS.

The actor, who is being lauded for his work as a Punjabi boy in "Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana" adds, "it's important to do commercial films, but they should have the sensibility of independent cinema".

"My favorite films are 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.', '3 Idiots', 'Chak De! India' and 'Rang De Basanti'. They are all commercial films but they have (a certain) sensibility to them," he said.

Kunal, who made his Bollywood debut in 2005 with "Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities", says he would rather sit at home than doing films he doesn't believe in. But sometimes it becomes taxing.

"I am very clear about the films I want to do and I don't want to do. Sitting at home for a long time can get frustrating because everyone else is working as an actor you want to work and be part of shooting.

"So it is slightly frustrating, but it's the choice that I have made. I have developed a choice. So I will not do films that I don't believe in," said the 37-year-old.
