Mumbai, Jan 21 (IANS) Avinash Kumar Singh, director of the upcoming film "Listen Amaya", says he and his wife wrote the film for Farooque Sheikh and Deepti Naval.

"As writers when we write a script, we have this idea that we are writing for so and so person. When we wrote it into a feature film, we wrote it for Farooque Sheikh and Deepti mam, and we knew we wanted people of that calibre, that stature and look," Avinash said here in an interview.

"We were lucky that when we wrote and narrated it to them, they agreed, even though we were first time directors," he added.

The film tells the story of Amaya and her widowed mother, who begins to develop a relationship with Amaya's friend. "Listen Amaya" stars Swara Bhaskar in the title role while Deepti plays her mother. The film hits theatres Feb 1.

Avinash also revealed that they were initially planning a short film on their story but a friend persuaded them to make a feature film.

"The story was written by my wife, it was a short story she wrote eight years back. Around two-and-a-half years back, we decided to take it out and make a short story, about five-10 minutes long."

"We sent it to a friend to read it. He said if you make a short film for Rs.30 to Rs.40 lakh, you will not get any returns. It has potential, make a feature film," he said.
