Wouldn't have touched 'Himmatwala' if it was 'Mughal-e-Azam': Ajay

Mumbai, March 18 (IANS) Actor Ajay Devgn, who plays the male lead in the remake of the 1983 movie "Himmatwala", says if the film was a "classic" like "Mughal-e-Azam", the new team would have never touched it.

"We would never try to attempt a 'Mughal-e-Azam', because we could never try to beat a 'Mughal-e-Azam'. We can only do films which we have got the ingredients for and feel that we can better," Ajay told reporters here.

"Otherwise, what is the point of making a film. So you should never touch

classics," he added.

The comment came as a reaction to Sridevi's past comment that "'Himmatwala' was no 'Mughal-e-Azam'. Sridevi had played the lead heroine in the original, opposite Jeetendra.

The remake, releasing March 29, is directed by Sajid Khan, and features southern actress Tammannah.

Ajay went on to say, "That is why we did 'Himmatwala' because it was no

'Mughal-e-Azam'! Had it been 'Mughal-e-Azam', we would have never touched it

only."

The actor says he considers himself lucky that he has been accepted in

various genres.

"I would like to do different kind of films. I am doing 'Satyagraha' now and it is not a comedy, but it is a very commercial film. I am lucky because there are very few actors who are accepted in different genres."
