The Central Board Of Film Certification has become quite infamous for its bans and cuts on films released in India. The recent film to come on its radar is Raveena Tandon’s rape-revenge thriller ‘Maatr.’

Apparently, last week, the entire body of CBFC board members walked out during the screening of the film after it was discovered that the film's content was drastically different from the screenplay that was given to the board.

Later, on Saturday, the members viewed the film again and banned it for allegedly violating several guidelines. A source from CBFC told The Quint, “’Maatr’ has graphic and gruesome violence against women. The film is carpeted with maa-behen expletives. We can't even recommend that the abuses be beeped as they run through the course of the film in an ongoing rush of profanity.”

The source further quoted, “Rape sequences are always tricky. We never know when they stop becoming shocking and get into the voyeuristic /titillating zone. In ‘Maatr’ the women’s violation is subject to allegations of excessive elaboration. Though the film is well-intended and hard-hitting we cannot take the risk of incurring the wrath of organizations devoted to prevention of violation against women.”

However, CBFC CEO Anurag Shrivastava denied the reports and said, “The screening of the movie ‘Maatr’ for CBFC was done on Saturday evening and at the moment there is no screening of ‘Maatr’ again. Ban on the movie is false, as the examination committee is still in process and the result will be conveyed in a day or two.”

Well, if everything gets sorted, ‘Maatr’ which is directed by Ashtar Sayed will release on April 21, 2017.
