New Delhi, Aug 3 (IANS) Actor Matt Damon, who is also a fervent philanthropist and environmentalist, firmly believes that the responsibility to take care of planet Earth needs to be taken by every individual. Otherwise, future generations, will suffer a lot.

"Future generations will not look kindly on us. Our grandkids and great-grandkids are going to have to live here," the 42-year-old, awaiting the release of his new film "Elysium", said in a statement.

Damon also said people need to stop being selfish. They need to stop the "Well, I'm not going to be around, so f**k the rest of you" attitude, for the "Well, this is our problem, so let's work on it together" thought.

"It's like we have this weird block when it comes to projecting beyond ourselves, as though we've become selfish on some very deep level," he said.

"Elysium" is written and directed by "District 9" director Neill Blompkamp. It narrates the story of a ravaged Earth in the year 2159 A.D. where humans are dealing with overpopulation, poverty and disease, while the affluent live on a luxurious space station called Elysium.

The movie, releasing in Indian theatres in English and Hindi Aug 23, also features Jodie Foster.
