Christmas Releases

A number of Malayalam movies are slated to hit the theaters near you for this year’s festive season of Christmas. Seven major movies are lined up for this year’s Christmas.

Many of the stars including Mammootty, Dileep, Kunchacko Boban, Prithviraj, Jayasurya, and Nivin Pauly will be competing at the box office. Along with their big budget movies there are certain low budget movies too getting ready to hit the theaters during this year end.

A rounding up of the major Christmas releases:

Aamayum Muyalum

The festivities start with Priyadarshan’s ‘Amayum Muyalum’. Expected to release on December 19th ‘Amayum Muyalum is a fun filled thriller with Jayasurya as the hero. 'Aamayum Muyalum' happens in an imaginary village called Gaulippadi in the Karnataka border. The movie narrates the interesting and intriguing events following a murder in the village.

Anoop Menon does a major cameo role as a government official. Pia Bajpayee is the heroine. Innocent, Nedumudi Venu, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Harisree Asokan also include the main cast. The movie will begin with a brief introduction rendered by Mohanlal. ‘Aamayum Muyalum’ is produced by Jaison Pulikkottil.

Mili

Another movie announced for a December 19th release is Rajesh Pillai’s ‘Mili. ‘Mili’ is a female-centric inspirational movie featuring Amala Paul in the lead role as Mili. Nivin Pauly does the male lead as a soft skill trainer who tries to understand and resolve the psychological issues Mili is struggling to get rid of.

There are 22 female actors in ‘Mili’ including Sanusha, Praveena, Sija Rose, Shamna Kasim, Devi Ajith, Ambika, Baby Nandana, and Baby Ammu. Manoj K Jayan and Amol Pareshar also do major roles. ‘Mili’ is produced by Sathish B Sathish and Dr Avinash Unnithan under the banner of Ordinary Films in association with Cross Pictures.

Rajesh Pillai’s last outing in Malayalam was 2011’s blockbuster - ‘Traffic’. Rejesh has been busy with the Hindi remake of ‘Traffic’ and based on the promos ‘Mili’ looks like another great film.

Cousins

Vysakh’s ‘Cousins’ is a multi-starrer featuring Kunchacko Boban, Indrajith, Suraj Venjarammoodu, and Joju as cousins. The movie has already created hype over a song sequence with a budget of Rs 80 lakhs which is shot in the Bangalore Palace. In addition to the major actors, around 600 junior artists too performed in this song sequence.

The movie plots how three of the cousins try to regain the lost memory of six months of their fourth cousin. Vedika and Nisha Aggarwal are the heroines. 'Cousins' is produced by Vysakha Rajan under the banner of Vysakha Films.

Cousins is releasing on December 19th.

Nagaravaridhi Naduvil Njan

‘Nagaravaridhi Naduvil Njan’, a social satire directed by Shibu Balan, featuring Sreenivasan in the lead role is yet another movie set for Christmas release. Sangeetha, who shot to fame with ‘Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala’ plays the female lead in this movie.

‘Nagaravaridhi Naduvil Njan’ is centered on Venu, a Gulf returnee, who tries to get hold of his land in the town which is now used as a garbage dump yard. The script and dialogues are penned by Sreenivasan. ‘Nagaravaridhi Naduvil Njan’ is produced by Mukesh R Mehta under the banner of E 4 Entertainment.

‘Nagaravaridhi Naduvil Njan’ is announced to release on December 25th.

Fireman

‘Fireman’ directed by Deepu Karunakaran stars Mammootty and Nyla Usha in the lead roles along with Unni Mukundan who also does one of the prominent roles. Mammootty plays a fire fighter who gets involved in a risky rescue operation and the resulting events are plotted in the movie ‘Fireman’.

Nyla Usha dons a police officer for the first time in this film. Siddique is also doing an important role. In the banner of Galaxy Films, ‘Fireman’ is produced by Milan Jaleel.

‘Fireman’ is expected to release during Christmas.

Ivan Maryadaraman

‘Ivan Maryadaraman’ is the Malayalam remake of the Telugu hit film ‘Maryadaramanna’ by S S Rajamouli. The Malayalam movie is directed by debutante Suresh Diwakar. Dileep plays an employee at a rice mill in Pune. The startling events in his life on his unexpected arrival to his native place form the plot of the movie.

Nikki Galrani is the heroine. ‘Ivan Maryadaraman’ is touted to be one of the big budget movies ever made in Malayalam. The film is produced by Anto Joseph under the banner of Ann Mega Media.

‘Ivan Maryadaraman’ is expected to release during Christmas.

Picket 43

Major Ravi’s next military movie ‘Picket 43’ starring Prithviraj and Javed Jaffrey in the lead roles is another major Christmas release. Prithviraj plays a commando who guards Picket 43, the checking point at the Kashmir border all alone.

The movie narrates the warm and intense comradeship between the Indian soldier Hareendranath Nair (Prithviraj) and the Pakistani soldier Mushraff (Javed Jaffrey). New face Anusha does the female lead. The film is produced by O G Sunil under the banner of Film Brewery Entertainment Private Limited.

‘Pickt 43’ is expected to release during Christmas.
