Cinematographer M. J. Radhakrishnan passes away

Noted cinematographer M. J. Radhakrishnan passed away following a cardiac arrest at a private hospital around 7 pm in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. He was 61.


Born in Punalur as the son of Tholicode native Janardhanan Vaidyar and P Lalitha, Radhakrishnan is survived by wife Sree Latha, son Yadu and daughter Neeraja.


He has cranked the camera for about 75 films. Radhakrishnan has won Kerala State Film Award for Best Cinematographer seven times. Started out his career as a still photographer, he assisted cinematographer-director Shaji N Karun.


Radhakrishnan’s first independent work as a cinematographer was ‘Maamalakalkkapurathu’ (1988), helmed by Ali Akbar. He won State film award for ‘Deshadanam’, ‘Karunam’, ‘Adayalangal’, ‘Bioscope’, ‘Veettilekkulla Vazhi’, ‘Akashathinte Niram’, and ‘Kaadu Pookkunna Neram’.


Shaji. N. Karun’s ‘Olu’ was his last film as cinematographer.
