Court orders arrest of producer Thanu

Nov 2, 2016 JB

Kalaipuli Thanu who is a powerful figure in Tamil cinema and who is the man behind Kabali, appears to have landed himself in trouble.

A theatre owner, David from Nagercoil had claimed that he had entered into an agreement with the producer according to which Thanu had to compensate him, if he incurred loss while screening of SJ Suryah’s film Thirumagan in 2009. As he incurred loss, Thanu had to pay 2 lakh to the theatre owner. As the producer did not pay the amount, David moved the principal subordinate court, Nagercoil seeking directions to recover the amount with interest.

In 2013, the court ruled in David's favour, following which he filed a transit and execution petition before the assistant city civil court to transfer the case and recover the amount. Yesterday, the 1st of November, a judge from Chennai court ordered Thanu’s arrest for not following court orders.
