Director GS Panicker passes away

Veteran director GS Panicker passed away in Chennai on Thursday. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer.

Panicker has produced and directed seven Malayalam films with ‘Ekaakini’ (1976) being the maiden film. It was based on the short story ‘Karutha Chandran’ written by M T Vasudevan Nair. ‘Ekaakini’ is touted to be the first road movie in Malayalam.

His another film ‘Pandavapuram’ was the adaptation of writer Sethu’s famous novel ‘Adayalangal’. Panicker has directed a children’s film ‘Sahyante Makan’ based on the poem written by Vyloppilli Sreedharamenon.
