Filmmaker KS Sethumadhavan is no more

Veteran filmmaker KS Sethumadhavan died in Chennai on Friday. He was 90. Sethumadhavan is chiefly remembered as a director, who has given visual adaptation of major literary works in Malayalam.

As a filmmaker, he has won several national and state honours. Yesteryear actor Sathyan's famous onscreen characters are from Sethumadhavan's films. Born in Palakkad in 1931, he began his career as an assistant director to K. Ramnath. His first Malayalam film as director was 'Njanasundari', which was based on the short story by writer Muttathu Varky.

Sethumadhavan, whose films have become milestones in Malayalam, introduced actor Kamala Hasan to Malayalam industry as a child artiste and later, as a hero in 'Kanyakumari'. Apart from Malayalam, he has directed films in Telegu and Tamil.

His major films include 'Anubhavangal Paalichakal', 'Oppol', 'Aranaazhikaneram', 'Odayilninnu', 'Panitheeraatha Veedu', 'Chattakkari' and 'Azhakulla Selina'. His last film was 'Venalkkinavikal' in 1991.
