Filmmaker Thampi Kannanthanam passes away

Noted filmmaker Thampi Kannanthanam, who gave several hit films with actor Mohanlal, died at a private hospital in Kochi on Tuesday afternoon. The 65-year-old filmmaker, who had been undergoing treatment for liver-related ailment, died of kidney failure.


Kannanthanam is best known for films like ‘Rajavinte Makan’, ‘Vazhiyorakazchakal’, ‘Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar’, ‘Indrajaalam’, ‘Naadody’ and ‘Maanthrikam.’


He started his career with the film ‘Thavalam’ in 1983, and directed 16 films. The director was instrumental in shaping up the acting career of Mohanlal.


He also worked as an actor in films like ‘Itha Oru Theeram’, ‘Kathirunna Divasam’, ‘Nirnayam’, ‘Ustaad’ and ‘Oru Cheru Punchiri’ etc. He has also produced a number of films.
