The driver of veteran film actress and BJP MP Hema Malini, whose car met with an accident in Jaipur, has been arrested, police said on Friday.

"We have arrested the driver of Hema Malini's car, Mahesh Thakur, a resident of Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh," a police officer at Dausa, where the accident took place on Thursday evening, told IANS over phone.

Thakur has been arrested on charges of rash driving, causing death by negligence, besides others, the official said.

The actress was injured in a road accident near Dausa, over 50 km from Jaipur in Rajasthan, when her car driven by Thakur rammed into another car coming from the opposite direction.

A five-year-old who was in the other car was killed, while four of its other occupants have been admitted to a hospital, the officer told IANS.

Doctors said the parliamentarian has suffered injuries on her forehead. She underwent a surgery and a CT scan and other tests were conducted on Thursday night.

"She is under observation and we will issue a medical bulletin at around 11.45 a.m. today (Friday)," a Fortis hospital spokesperson said.
