Ilayaraja gets Padma Vibhushan

Music composer Ilayaraja has been conferred with the prestigious Padma Vibhushan. When he was informed about being graced with the prestigious award, he told the media, “The award shows that Modi government respects Tamil Nadu and Tamil people a lot.”

During his media interaction, Ilayaraja told that a joint Secretary level official from the Information and Broadcasting ministry had telephoned to inform him about the award.

Wishes are pouring in for the maestro from all over in social media and Oscar winner AR Rahman tweeted, “My best wishes and respect to Ustad Gulam Mustafaji and Ilayaraja saab for being conferred the Padma Vibhushan”. Kamal Haasan tweeted in Tamil, the rough translation of which reads, “My senior in age Ilayaraja gets the award. He was qualified for this award even when he was young. Like how, he forgives this late arrival, let his fans also forgive. The country, the award and Tamil Nadu are proud of Raja”.
