Ilayaraja sends legal notice to director Shankar
Jan 5, 2015 JBKappal directed by Karthik G Krish, an erstwhile assistant of director Shankar is distributed by Shankar’s S Pictures. The film starring Vaibhav Reddy and newcomer Sonam Bajwa was released on the Christmas day and is a comedy entertainer that is doing decent business.
The film’s music is composed by Natraj Shankaran. There is a song in the film Ooru Vittu Ooru Vandhu which is actually a remix from the blockbuster old classic Karagattakaran featuring Ramarajan and Kanaka with Ilayaraja’s music.
It appears that the maestro’s song has been used in the film without seeking permission from him and hence Raja has sent a legal notice to director Shankar. Talking on behalf of his client Ilayaraja, advocate Ragunathan says, “Shankar had entered into an agreement with Agi Music Private Limited to acquire the license of the song to remix. But Agi Music Private Limited has no right over that song. Shankar should either pay royalty for the song or stop using the song. If this is not complied, my client would initiate appropriate legal proceedings”.
