Drama review

Drama

Malayalam · 2018

Writer-director Ranjith raises the age-old issue of senility: negligence by children. He also presents the extension of it by discussing how the NRI children ignore the last wish of their mother, who dies in a foreign land. Primarily, 'Drama' faces the serious issue of the lack of sensible and in-depth writing. The preachy and insipid events reveal the degree of superficial execution that has been lent to the plot.

WHO review

WHO

Malayalam · 2018

Like the mystery behind the deaths in the film, 'Who' is a tough nut to crack, thanks to the modes of interpretations it offers. Set in a valley, some characters experience a dream at 6 am and they see same people in it. While you laboriously try to interpret their dreams, there crops up the urgent need for a discerning mind.

Koodasha review

Koodasha

Malayalam · 2018

'Koodasha' is the psychoanalysis of the mind of a goon-turned-moral man. Albeit the intensity is not so deep in exploring the depths of his mental condition, it is a notable attempt by newbie director Dinu Thomas Eelan. Baburaj as a doting father to his daughter gives a reasonable justice to the role. Obviously, the real actor in him is the surprise package of this movie.

French Viplavam review

French Viplavam

Malayalam · 2018

Characters evoke the feel of caricatures in 'French Viplavam,' which is an ineffective revolution set in the late 90s when Arrack ban was implemented in Kerala. When the tale also attains the traits of characters, the intended satire about the tipplers ensures a feeble and poor impact.

Johny Johny Yes Appa review

Johny Johny Yes Appa

Malayalam · 2018

Tinged with trivial humour, 'Johny Johny Yes Appa' offers a bumpy ride towards a tiring sentimental phase. The screenplay penned by Joji Thomas of 'Vellimoonga' fame has occasional spark of hilarious ripostes; sans helping the tale that has plenty of plotholes.

Dagini review

Dagini

Malayalam · 2018

Four elderly women lead a fight against a ruthless villain in a senseless manner, and in the process, their absurdities are too menial to make you laugh. It fails to exploit the acting prowess of a bunch of seasoned actors due to a hollow screenplay.

Aanakallan review

Aanakallan

Malayalam · 2018

Before falling into the depths of aimless events, 'Aanakkallan' creates the premise of a murder mystery. Biju Menon as thief Pavithran fails to whet your enthusiasm in this lukewarm drama that has a mix of outdated narrative elements. The highly primitive concept and clumsy writing makes matters worse.

Nonsense review

Nonsense

Malayalam · 2018

'Nonsense' is not exactly gibberish by any means; instead, it's a well-intentioned simple drama that sheds light on the real purpose of education. The feel is delightful albeit the conflict in the plot appears to be cumbersome only for the teenage protagonist.

Kayamkulam Kochunni review

Kayamkulam Kochunni

Malayalam · 2018

You get only a slice of the eventful life of a compassionate 'thief', who had petrified the rich in the erstwhile Travancore during the 19th century, in 'Kayamakulam Kochunni.' Writers Bobby and Sanjay have deftly tweaked the tale from 'Aithihyamala' authored by Kottarathil Sankunni for the filmic purpose. Yet, it remains an admiringly created and smartly narrated movie by director Rosshan Andrrews.

Aickarakkonathe Bhishaguaranmaar

Malayalam · 2018

Despite having the clear intention of discussing a grave issue,'Aikkarakkonathe Bhishagwaranmar' fails to raise the bar in its execution. Sivaji Guruvayur shines as Sukumaran Vaidyar even as this melodrama, enacted by mostly newcomers, flames out with a slender impact.

Mandharam review

Mandharam

Malayalam · 2018

'Mandaram' blossoms partially with the aid of a highly cliched and shallow tale of romance. Asif Ali's dejected lover hogs the limelight in the sluggish narration, which is buttressed by melodies from the past occasionally. The dwindling spirit of the movie craves for a befitting craft that is disappointingly missing.

Lilli review

Lilli

Malayalam · 2018

Samyuktha Menon's eponymous character as a pregnant woman is the mainstay of this shoddily written and casually directed thriller. Lilli faces the question of how she could get rid of the clutches of a three-member gang. Since the answer for her survival is so unconvincing and bland, 'Lilli' turns out to be a damp squib thriller.
