Kamal Haasan does not want to return his national award

Kamal Haasan’s Thoongavanam is getting released in a week’s time on the 10th of November on the auspicious day of Diwali. This film is a bilingual made in Telugu as Cheekati Rajyam. During a promotional event for the film, Kamal has stated that he does not wish to return his national award.


Now, it appears to be a fad of sorts in the country wherein luminaries from the art and culture field return their awards that include the Sahitya Akademy, Padma awards and National Awards in the field of cinema protesting against the said intolerance in the country.


Kamal chose to be different and said, “I won't do it. That's my right. Returning awards will not have any effect. It is also necessary for them (the people returning awards) to be tolerant. You will insult the government and the people who gave the award to you." He also added that instead of returning awards, artists and writers should make films or write articles on the issue to raise awareness. Click the Movie button below for more info:
