Kamal's appeal to Finance Minister

Jun 6, 2017 JB

The current worrying topic in Kollywood is the 28% GST which the Central Government has proposed to levy on the industry from the 1st of July. There are many celebs that are against this and voicing their opinion.

The forerunner in this is Ulaganayagan Kamal who addressed the media few days ago and said that central government should treat the regional industry fairly and not on par with Hollywood. He also said that if the tax structure is not reduced, he has no other option other than to quit films.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley stood his ground and said that no arm twisting would work. He addressed a conference on GST when he said, “We will look at each and every representation. But using the media as propaganda to pressurize the government is not going to work. We won’t be arm-twisted”. Reacting to this in a very humble manner, Kamal tweeted, “Not pressurising. It's a plea & SOS from regional cinema to our FM We fear it will collapse. We request the council to do all to save it”.
