Director Karan Johar may have made several popular films, but the filmmaker who heads one of the most powerful production houses of the country – Dharma Productions feels that he is yet to make any significant contribution to the Indian Cinema.

During the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2017, Karan said, “I may have contributed to the pop culture but I don’t think I have contributed to the brilliance of cinema as yet. I’m yet to make my ‘Lagaan’ or a ‘Rang De Basanti’ or a ‘Lage Raho’... which I believe are defining iconic films.”

Further talking about his 19-year-long career, the director who has given us hits like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ amongst others said, “I think I should have made many more movies. You start believing that you are so important that you can’t fail. Nobody is that important. Cinema is bigger than all of us. Last year, I promised myself to lessen the gap but I’m still crackling with the idea of what to make because it’s the same fear of failure, overestimation about the self that keeps popping up, which I have to fight out.”

Karan also revealed that his next film will be dedicated to his twins, Yash and Roohi, “My cinema has always been an extension of my state of mind... Whether it was ‘My Name Is Khan’ or ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil,’ it has always been resonant with my state of mind.”
