Lyricist Beeyar Prasad passes away

Noted lyricist and writer Beeyar Prasad (B. Rajendra Prasad) died at a hospital in Changanassery today following a brain haemorrhage. He was 62. He had been undergoing treatment at hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam before being shifted to Changanassery.


Born at Mankombu in Alappuzha, Beeyar has penned songs for more than 60 films and written more than 40 plays. Beeyar had been active as a television presenter for around 15 years.


He made his film debut as a lyricist with Mohanlal-starrer ‘Kilichundan Mambazham’. Beeyar’s popular songs include “Onnam kili Ponnankili…”, “Keranirakalaadum…”, and “Mazhathullikal pozhinjeedumi…” etc. He was also an assistant director in the film ‘Chamayam’, directed by Bharathan. The poet has penned lyrics for films like ‘Iruvattom Manavatti’, ‘Lanka,’ ‘Bangalowil Outha’, ‘Seetha Kalyanam’ and ‘Kallante Makan’. His last film as a lyricist was ‘Thattinpurathu Achuthan’ (2018), directed by Lal Jose.


He has published a novel titled ‘Chandrolsavam’. Beeyar is survived by wife Sanitha Prasad, son and daughter. His last rites will be held on Thursday.
