Lyricist Na Muthukumar passes away

National Award winning lyricist Na Muthukumar passed away yesterday, the 14th of August due to jaundice. He was 41 and is survived by wife, a son aged 9 and an infant daughter aged 8 months.


His premature death had shocked the entire fraternity and people. It is said that he has been suffering from jaundice related ailments for almost a month and finally succumbed to the deadly disease.


Hailing from Kanchipuram Muthukumar came to Chennai to become a film director and joined Balu Mahendra’s school of filmmaking. But fate had a different plan for this young man who penned his first song for Seeman’s Veera Nadai which paved way for an illustrious career in lyric writing that resulted in two national awards for best lyricist, one for Aananda Yaazhai Meettugirai from Thanga Meengal and Azhagae Azhagu from Saivam.
