Maggie Smith fuels speculation about her exit from 'Downton Abbey' and the show's end

Actress Maggie Smith has added fuel to long-running speculation that the upcoming sixth season of period drama “Downton Abbey” would be the last for the series.

Even if the show lasts beyond the sixth season, the 80-year-old thinks she may no longer be part of it.

When asked whether the sixth season will be the last season of series, Smith told the Sunday Times newspaper: “They say this is the last one, and I can't see how it could go on.”

Talking about her character, Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, she added: “I mean, I certainly can't keep going... To my knowledge, I must be 110 by now. We're into the late 1920s.”
