Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 12 (IANS) Indian film icons Priyadarshan, Santosh Sivan and Mohanlal have contributed hugely in giving a new lease of life to paan shop owner-turned-film director Suresh Krisshnan's new film.

Krisshnan told IANS that these industry giants have gone out of their way to give him moral support besides giving valuable tips in the making of his film, "Nakhangal", a crime thriller ready to release Jan 18.

"Priyan physically helped me shoot a song and tidied up the script, Sivan cranked the first shot besides giving all the support in photography, while Mohanlal turned inspirational by constantly calling me to find out how the filming is going on. I am overwhelmed by their huge and unflinching support," said Krisshnan.

Eight years back, Krisshnan, 45, had to wind up his dingy paan shop located in the heart of the capital city, following road widening.

He assisted his father in the shop as a young boy for nearly two decades.

After that, he started running the shop, and his acquaintance with Priyadarshan as a young boy got stronger. Krisshnan was bitten by the film bug and soon decided that films are his first love.

In 1998, he directed his first Malayalam film "Bharatiyam", starring Suresh Gopi, and then went on to direct three more films.

"My last film here ran into legal trouble and seeing me a worried man, Priyadarshan took me to Mumbai and I have been with him since the past eight years assisting him in all his films. And when he found out that I can handle things on my own, he gave me all his blessings and I did this new film," remarked Krisshnan.

"Nakhangal" tells the tale of three friends staying together in a rented house and how their life changes after another man comes to stay with them. They go through experiences they never had or expected to have in their life.

Rakendu, a newcomer plays the lead character, while others include Madan Mohan, who has acted in Priyadarshan's upcoming Hindi film "Rangrez" and Megha, a Malayalee model from Mumbai, who is making her acting debut in the industry. There are also Nandu, Jeevan, Poojappura Ravi, Augustine and Vaishali.

Shot completely in Ooty, the film is produced by Seven Arts, a popular production company in the industry here.

"I am hopeful that with a lot of blessings and moral support from the giants in the industry, my second coming into the Malayalam film industry will be good," added Krisshnan.
