Kapoor And Sons is intense and incisive in its observation of human inadequacies but is always entertaining. Cinematic sagas about dysfunctional family usually tend to fall into the trap of predictability. Kapoor And Sons doesn't. Kapoor And Sons is a winner all the way. This could be the story of any family anywhere and that is what makes Kapoor And Sons special.

The fact that Bollywood is now confident enough to give us a family which is not bursting with joy is a thing to be lauded. At first it is a huge relief that the Kapoors don’t go about slobbering over each other. They are not gratingly saccharine. They squabble, shout and yell. And then you stop. There’s a strong Karan Johar impression on Kapoor & Sons, but that is expected. After all, he is the producer of the film.
But what we didn’t expect was the finesse with which director Shakun Batra has narrated a predictable story. For the want of a better term, Kapoor & Sons is an emotional roller coaster. You’ll love it for being spontaneous, precise, fast paced and well lovable.

On the face of it you might easily say that there’s nothing new to Kapoor & Sons. Isn’t it the usual, dysfunctional family drama we have seen in countless Hollywood films? But not for a minute does the film feel stale. Batra gives a refreshing new voice to an old, tried and tested trope.
