Cheekati Rajyam ends up as a good thriller if not great. As said earlier adding more thrilling moments would have taken it to the next level. But still it is a decent watch.

Diwakar (Kamal Hassan) is a honest cop of narcotics department. One day he seizes a huge consignment of Cocaine belonging to drug Lord Vittal Rao (Prakash Raj). Enraged Vittal kidnaps Diwakar's son Vasu (Aman Abdullah) and asks for the ransom of the entire seized consignment. Rest of the story is all about what happens in Diwakar's life in the next 24 hours.

Kamal Hassan is excellent as always in to shaded character as an upright cop and a considerate father. Asha Sharath played his estranged wife in a limited role. Trisha is seen a radical role as a fellow cop. Madhu Shalini appears as a nurse and her romance with Kamal totally looked out of place. The confrontation scenes between her and Kamal worked out big time. Prakash Raj is an easy fit for the antagonist role with good humour in some scenes. Sampath is equally menacingly but is not used well. Aman Abdullah draws loud cheer from Kamal Fans especially at the end.

Rajesh M. Selva makes a very good directional debut. He got the basics like gripping story and apt casting, right which helped the film a lot. Further Kamal Hassan's Screenplay complimented it further. Most importantly the film was kept to a very slick 128 minutes which helped the film a lot. The first half goes at jet speed with a good interval bang. Second half is also good with pace dropping towards the end. The major problem is that the lack of edge of the seat moments which would have added lot of value for this thriller film.

Ghibran came up with a innovative background score especially in the emotional and fights seems which drives the audience to the mood of the story. Shanu Varghese came up with superb camera angles. The night tint used in the film enhances the effect of the thriller. Shaan's editing is okay while the production values are appropriate.

Finally, Cheekati Rajyam ends up as a good thriller if not great. As said earlier adding more thrilling moments would have taken it to the next level. But still it is a decent watch. It's commercial aspects however are limited due to the genre's limited reach
