Stories of filial duties become pretty dramatic once the filmmaker explores or fathoms the depth of relations. Being one of the selling points in films, usually such stories are brimmed with sentiments. If you are set to watch a son struggling to look after his father and regain his lost fortune, well, this story is intertwined in predictable lines.

Vincent (Mukesh) is a rich businessman in Thrissur. Among his four children, Jomon (Dulquer Salmaan) is a carefree youth in the family and is struggling to complete his MBA. Vincent tries his best to make him a responsible person, but in vain. Meanwhile, Jomon falls in love with an aristocratic girl, Catherine (Anupama Parameswaran).

Unfortunately, Vincent loses all his fortune, and it brings a great change in Jomon's attitude towards life.

The vital part of "Jomonte Suviseshangal" takes place in Tirupur in the latter half, focusing on the textile industry there. Jomon's meeting with Vydehi (Aiswarya Rajesh) becomes another turning point in his life.

A ringside view of Sathyan Anthikad's recent films would unravel his penchant for Tamil milieu and preachy narration. This time a deliberate attempt for a didactic message is absence.

The filmmaker, who has been pigeon-holed as an exponent in depicting middle-class families' lives, could sever that notion with his novel approach to the treatment of this movie. But with a story that naturally evokes dejà vu in us, his efforts may go unnoticed.

Iqbal Kuttippuram's script (too many dramatic dialogues) loses it focus so often though the whole action confluences to a lackluster climax.

At one stage, the story meanders aimlessly and from that point, the film never revives its vitality. Finally, Dulquer's charm and presence, and a neat performance by Mukesh are the takeaways from the flick.

Due to its predictability and familiar plot "Jomonte Suviseshangal" turns out to be an average watch.

It is disheartening to see a veteran director like Sathyan Anthikad making such low-quality family dramas that are not only difficult to watch but also without any substance. Even if one does not compare this cold turkey and the 2015 debacle "Ennum Eppozhum" with the director's past films, there is still the issue of lack of novelty. BOTTOM LINE: I've not even listed the large number of plot-holes and glaring defects in the film. Not recommended!

Though it has a story which has been told and retold, Sathyan Antikad puts his signature in the filming and makes it an awesome experience to the spectator. Dulquer has done his role memorably well. It seems that with each film he is maturing himself into an actor. Among the other actors Mukesh has put up a good show as the father of Dulquer. Aiswarya as Devayani, Muthumani, Indu Thampi, Irshad and Innocent have done their respective roles well. Now see it for yourself and judge.
