Actor Mammootty is stylishly attractive and powerfully eloquent in Shaji Padoor-directed "Abrahaminte Santhathikal," an action thriller. Shaji has a tailor-made plot for Mammootty and no wonder, the actor fulfils the task with elan. Since you have dejà vu about such a tale, the lead character's dilemma seldom bothers you, and so the success is inevitably belongs to him.
At the outset, the screenplay written by Haneef Adeni sets the stage for unravelling the mystery behind the murder series. Such a riveting premise is sullied by the illogical answers provided by the protagonist, and it ensures the victory of the customary notion that a hero can never be at fault in his deeds. Then the tale digresses to the realms of the emotional bond between two brothers.
Mammootty plays an honest police officer, Derick Abraham, and his straightforwardness creates rivals even in his own department. He realises the repercussions of his character when his brother Philip (Anson Paul) gets arrested for allegedly killing his beloved Aleena (Tarushi). Now it's the turn of Derick Abraham to prove the innocence of his brother, whom he loves the most. He even faces challenges from his old lover Diana Joseph (Kaniha), the public prosecutor.
Derick starts his own investigation into this case by monitoring Philips' friends, including Arun (Maqbool Salman). How he saves his imprisoned brother forms the crux of the plot.
The vast experience of Shaji Padoor as an associate director significantly comes to play in the narration of "Abrahaminte Santhathikal." In his debut as a filmmaker, Shaji immaculately exploits the charisma of an actor like Mammootty by using subtle variations of his expressions to the best effect.
Mammotty redefines his stylish equations through his subtle expressions sans lofty speeches. Barring the fight sequences, the actor in him stands firm to the ground and Derick's conflicts relate well with the audience. Anson Paul gets the emotions in the right proportions in order to unfold the dismay of the character.
Gopi Sunder accomplishes the task of keeping the BGM in its perfect mode, while Alby proves again that his visuals too can have the racy rhythm befitting to the thriller genre.
The well-wrought format of "Abrhaminte Santhathikal" has been exclusively woven for a hero, who finds solutions for his problems on the sly. The filmic grandeur is dominant to aid the protagonist than bringing conviction in the treatment. This action thriller has minimal exaggeration but there is clear gap between logic and onscreen events. There is no room for further queries in the action.
