You watch a movie and things from the movie linger in your mind. The recurring thought after watching Sivakasi is - Vedika is a heroine to watch out for. Her svelte figure, easy screen presence and sensible acting could land her with bigger roles. She is not just a fresh and pretty face. There is more to her than that. This Kannadiga girl settled in Mumbai is definitely going to make her presence felt in the movie industry with her softness, beauty and an understated oomph factor. It feels good to watch girls like her in the movies.

Sivakasi is yet another movie about underworld gangs. This film is claimed to have been made like Ramu(Ram Gopal Verma). Obviously when Ramu’s movies are not doing well, where is Sivakasi headed? To the land of mediocrity, of course. Though its mot poised to be a hit, watching the movie for time pass is not a bad idea. The refreshing diversions were romance and comedy. Sunil, a comedian par excellence whose potential is not exploited to the full, gives a good performance in the film despite measured exposure. Jagapati Babu who gave a superb performance in Gayam that catapulted him to stardom acts well in the movie. So does Arjun. The actors in the villain roles too perform well. Lack of novelty in the plot sabotages the movie’s success. Some of the characters are not well carved out. For instance Kasi (Jagapati Babu) who is very protective about his younger brother marries a girl (Ghazala). But Ghazala whose role as Kasi’s wife was about emerge clearly, simply gets pregnant and vanishes only to be seen in the last scene. And the villains like in thousands of movies seems to have no other activity other than sitting on sofas surrounded by goons, plotting and swearing; that is when they are not travelling in SUVs.

The movie Sivakasi shifts from one revenge mission to another. Siva (Arjun), in pursuit of the killers of his parents lands in Dharavi, Mumbai. Siva lands up in the house of Anjali (Vedika), thanks to his friend the cab driver (Sunil). Its love at first sight that grows as Anjali sees more of Siva in the next few days. Then Siva starts working for a ganglord – Ravianna. Ravianna has rivalry with his brother Mani who is in the same trade. Kasi is the most trusted lieutenant of Mani. Siva and Kasi’s paths cross because of their allegiance to rival gangs. But after being isolated from their gangs they become friends. And they both join to avenge the murders of Anjali and Kasi’s brother. How they do it? Go find out your self. If the movie turns out be average, don’t blame us that we didn’t warn you.
