Films like Sukhee suffer from a worrying lack of self-awareness. They set out to display the silent strength of homemakers, only to treat them as exotic creatures who can win horse races, eat like scavengers, curse like sailors and ride macho motorbikes.

Shilpa Shetty looks great but does not have the acting heft to make Sukhee sympathetic. Since she is in almost every frame, the other actors remain in the shadows, except maybe Chaitanya Choudhry and Kusha Kapila.

The second half of the movie, for sometime, gets away from pretending and tries to have a conversation for real. But the ghost of the first half never lets it have that conversation with the seriousness it deserves, and nor does the sarcasm lands like it should.
