Chellaata will be a laugh riot, announced the film's director during the launch of the film. He had also said that the film's story is inspired on some Malayalam film he had seen many years ago and the name of which he does not remember.Well,he should be patted on the back for creating a script from a film, which has inspired him many years ago. But in the film industry, truth is always a causality when it comes to films that are ''inspired' by some non Kannada films. That may be because the remake films do not enjoy some concessions that are given to the films based on original stories. Therefore let us presume that Chellata is a film based on an original story which is a product of an inspiration obtained after seeing a Malayalam film many years ago.A victory for 'transparency' and 'truth' really.

Coming back to the film's plusses and minuses, it has to be said that the film brightens up in many sequences, but it falls deep in many sequences. This lack of consistency in narration is the major factor that belittles the interest in the proceedings on many occasions. For examples, all the confusion created because of the exchange of mobile sets brings in roaring laughter in the theatre, but many sequences featuring Mohan Juneau and Tennis Krishna track does not bring in necessary relief. It may look a little dragged and do not look credible also.Umashri's character adds some pep into the film and audience will sure remember the character she had played in the film Mommaga which had featured Crazy star Ravichandran.

Director M.D. Sridhar would have done well to reduce the slapstick comedy sequences, as the Kannada film audience is much impressed by situational comedy and not exaggerated comedy situations. That is the precise reason why many sequences fall flat without any impact. While artists like Rangayana Raghu, Komal and Comedy Time Ganesh have worked hard to bring some decisive impact in some sequences, it should also be said that the Mohan Juneja track which comes separately in the first half does not jell with the film.

Comedy Time Ganesh has got a big break in this film as a hero, and to be fair to him it has to be said that the actor has worked hard. He has proved his mettle even in fight sequences and dance situations. But the experience heroine Rekha fails to impress.Surprising since this actress has already acted in many successful Kannada and Telugu films and has been in the industry for nearly five years. She is found wanting in the emotional sequences of the film. Rangayana Raghu,Komal, Bank Janardhan, Tennis Krishna,Mohan Juneja have tried their level best to bring a laugh riot in the theatres.

Guru Kiran has composed two good songs Sundaranath Suvarna excels in his work and there have been some good visuals in fantastic outdoor locations.

Chellata is just an O.K. film and its acceptance may well depend on your likes and dislikes with regard to a full-length comedy film.
