Madurai Veeran Tamil Movie
'MaduraiVeeran' is a remake of the Telugu mass entertainer 'Nuvve Nenu' (You are me). Director Vincent Selva has adopted the original Telugu script and made the film on a commercial formula. It was Selva who introduced Ramesh in his movie earlier. 'Madurai Veeran' has romance and action provided in equal measure.
Here goes the story
Shiva (Ramesh) is the only son of a rich businessman (Avinash). He grows up to be a spoiled brat with his mother passing away when he was a small boy and his father being fully occupied with his business. He and his cronies are known to create trouble wherever they go. A college mate, Priya (Saloni) is a daughter of milk supplier and ruffian Mayandi (Lal). Initially Priya keeps off Shiva but events bring them together. They understand each other. Their friendship develops into romance. But their parents were stoutly opposed to their marriage and do their worst to keep the lovers apart.
Ramesh has matured in acting and has done well in action and fight scenes. Saloni is pretty and convincing. Her clash with her aunty and pranks with Ramesh are worth mentioning. Lal and Ganja Karuppu are somewhat subdued. 'Dhool' Shankuntala has become stale. Her shouts of 'Yeih' are irritating Avinash looks a real millionaire. Hanifa, Venniraiadai Murthy and Gana Ulaganathan have played their roles to perfection.
Of Srikath Deva's songs, 'Okka Makka' is a foot-tapping number. His background score lacks verve. The first part is racy with interesting twins and turns. The latter half flounders somewhat and the tempo slackens. The chase by the burly man hired by Ramnesh's father to kill Saloni and fight scenes in the end look out of place. Excessive blood and gore could have been avoided.
In his attempt to find a new way of presentation, the director has lost his grip down the line. 'Madurai Veeran' is an average entertainer.
