Ugly Aur Pagli is mostly slow even boring at times but the performances make it worth a watch on DVD.

Directed by debutante director Sachin Khot, Ugly Aur Pagli stars Mallika Sherawat and Ranvir Shorey in lead roles. Produced by Pritish Nandy Communications the movie is a moderate budget love story.

Kabir (Ranvir Shorey) is a rather boring, monotonous soul who has been studying engineering for the last 10 years. If it's one thing that Kabir always wanted, it's a girlfriend. But never ever, ever in his wildest dreams (or nightmares) would he think that he would meet someone who would make him dance around in circles, run semi-naked, ride cycles without seats, wear high heeled ladies shoes and tons of quirky, kinky stuff.

Kuhu (Mallika Sherawat) is an obnoxious, strong and withy gill who is totally out of control! She has a knack of reeling you into her life, enamoring you and disrupting your life in a way you never knew possible! Pagali has been going through a personal crisis. And she feels that the only way she can overcome it is to put someone else through what she's been going through. Which means, scope out a loser guy, make him fall madly in love with her and then turn his life upside down!

With all the pranks and fun they have, the two unknowingly fall in low with each other.

Ugly Aur Pagli starts off well. And as there are just two main characters, the director manages to establish the characters well. But soon the scenes start getting repetitive, the pace slackens and the interval comes just at the right time. The second half is slower, different versions of the same scenes are repeated with a few witty and funny dialogues. In the last few scenes the director, probably worried about the length, suddenly decides to end it quickly. What follows is a series of illogical and utterly hard to digest scenes. What the director should have done though was chopping off 3 of the 4 songs, which add nothing to the movie. The love story works, but it's the climax that disappoints. Aannuu Malik has changed his name and added an additional 'Anu' to his name, nothing much has changed with the music though, and it still remains the same, strictly below average.

Mallika Sherawat can't act in emotional scenes. She is fair overall. Ranveer Shorey comes up with yet another magical performance, he rocks throughout. No other character deserves a mention, as the movie is dominated by the 2 main characters.

To sum things up, Ugly Aur Pagli is mostly slow even boring at times but the performances make it worth a watch on DVD.

1.5 / 5 (wait for the DVD)
