Muthuraman-Jayalalithaaa's Suryagandhi to have a re-release
Aug 15, 2016 JBThis appears to be the season of digitizing and re-releasing yesteryear classics. The first film to make use of this technology was Sivaji Ganesan’s Karnan which was followed by other films like Aayirathil Oruvan, Veerapandiya Kattabomman.
Following this trend, now, the Jayalalithaa and Muthuraman-starrer Suryagandhi, which was released first in 1973, is going to be digitized and rereleased. The film was directed by Muktha Srinivasan was a success at the time of its release.
As per reports, the film, which revolves around the relationship between a husband and wife, holds relevance even today. Suryagandhi dealt with the ego hassles that a man has when his wife starts earning more than him. This situation is even now topical. Hence the makers wanted to re-release the film by digitizing it. They will be converting the film into the cinemascope format. Interestingly, they will retain the black-and-white format and will not be changing it to color.
