Sargunam’s directorial Naiyaandi starring Dhanush has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Initially, the film’s heroine Nazriya kick-started a controversy alleging use of a body double without her permission and later withdrew the complaint.

Now the film is in the news for alleged plagiarism. Producer Mani C Kappan has filed a complaint against the makers of Naiyaandi for copyright violation. The court has temporarily stayed the screening and distribution of video rights of the film.

Mani C Kappan has alleged that Naiyaandi is a copy of the Malayalam movie, Meleparambil Aanveedu, produced by him and the story and scenes have been copied without his permission. Meleparambil Aanveedu starred Jayaram and Shobhana and was directed by Rajasenan in 1993.

Mani has informed that he was planning to make a Hindi remake of Meleparambil Aanveedu and a sequel to the film in Malayalam and due to the release of Naiyaandi, the same may not happen now.
