Actors wielding the megaphone is not uncommon now in Malayalam Cinema. Starting from Madhu, Balachandra Menon, Gopi, Captain Raju to Prithviraj Sukumaran, the list has some fabulous actors, who have also proved their mettle in direction.

One such genius is veteran actor Nedumudi Venu, who made his directorial debut in 1989 with the film ‘Pooram’. Incidentally, the film marked the debut of an actress, who later became one of the successful heroines in Malayalam.

Hailing from Andhra Pradesh, actress Maathu was the heroine in the film, which had an ensemble cast, including Thilakan, Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Murali, Mala Aravindan, Oduvil Unnikrishnan, Sankaradi, KPAC Lalitha and MG Soman et al.

Though the film didn’t do well at the box office, ‘Pooram’ had the signature of a brilliant craft man. Nedumdi has never directed a film after ‘Pooram’. But he went on enthralling audience with his trademark acting skills. The actor has won National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in the film ‘His Highness Abdulla’ in 1990.
