Bappi Lahiri to recreate 'Bombay se aaya mera dost' magic

Mumbai July 11 (IANS) Nearly three decades after "Bombay se aaya mera dost" became a chartbuster, Bappi Lahiri attempts to recreate the magic of the song for Akshay Kumar starrer "Chandni Chowk To China".

"See songs about Mumbai and me go back a long way. I did 'Bombai se aaya mera dost' so many years ago. Then recently, I did 'Mumbai nagariya' for Milan Luthria's 'Taxi No. 9211' for Vishal-Shekhar," Lahiri told IANS.

"Now when Nikhil Advani asked for a re-mix of my 'Aap Ki Khatir' song, I took it up as a challenge. I've just one track while the rest of the score is by Shankar-Ehsaan Loy and Kailash Kher," he added.

While the basic structure of the original song remains unaltered, Lahiri has tampered with the rhythm sections. However, the words 'Bombay' has not been changed to a more politically correct Mumbai.

"It's a song. Where does politics come into it?" asked the composer.

Lahiri says the track has turned out far better than it used to be.

"I've given it a new-age sound. And Akshay performing it will take it to another level," he added.
