Celebration time for Salman fans in Meerut

Meerut, Oct 27 (IANS) Eid and the fasting month of Ramadan over, at least 200 Salman Khan fans here organised a huge procession in the town before converging at a theatre to watch his latest "Jaan-e-Mann".

"During Ramadan Muslims don't watch movies. So, more than 200 members of Salman's fan club got together and toured the town with a band and then reached Nandan theatre to watch the film Thursday," Matloof, a Meerut-based distributor, told IANS.

The triangular love story also starring Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta is running to packed houses in three theatres in this town, about 80 km from Delhi.

"The film released before Eid, so didn't get a good response. But people have thronged theatres after Eid. Every show is packed," said Matloof.

Matloof's statement also proves Salman right.

The star had told a TV channel a few days ago: "I don't think Eid or Diwali is the right time to release a film because you want to spend time with your family during festivals. But I knew that the film will pick up after Eid."

Directed by first timer Shirish Kunder, the film is doing great business in most centres in the country.

"Admittedly the film had a poor start in Delhi and Mumbai but it picked up to 60 percent during the weekend. And on Monday the collections reached 90 percent," said a New Delhi-based distributor.

"The film is doing good business in other small centres," he added.

Jodhpur is a case in point. "It had a 130 percent collection in Jodhpur," said a source.

It is doing well abroad too.

The Salman starrer was released in Dubai, for instance, on Monday along with Shah Rukh Khan's "Don" and latest reports from there indicate 100 percent collections.
