New Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Thursday issued notices to Bollywood actors Aamir Khan and Rani Mukherjee and five others on a suit seeking a stay on the screening of Hindi film "Mangal Pandey - The Rising".

Justice O.P. Dwivedi asked actor Aamir, who is in the lead role in the film, and his co-star Rani Mukherjee as well as director Ketan Mehta, its distributor Yash Chopra and scriptwriter Farrukh Dhondy and two joint directors to file replies to the suit by Sep 21.

The suit has been filed by Raghunath Pandey and Onkarnath Pandey, who claim that they are descendants of Mangal Pandey, the Indian sepoy widely believed to have triggered what is known as India's first war of independence in 1857.

The suit urged the court to stay the screening of the film till certain objectionable shots in it are removed. It alleged that the film had shown Mangal Pandey in a relationship with a nautch girl, which they said was "out of context" and "unhistorical".
