Film on Harshad Mehta for London fest

Mumbai, Oct 7 (IANS) Sameer Hanchate's directorial debut "Gafla", inspired by the scam involving the late stockbroker Harshad Mehta, has been selected for the Times BFI 50th London Film Festival from Oct 18-Nov 2.


A former assistant to Subhash Ghai, Hanchate's Rs.30 million project released Friday.


Made under the banner of Metropolis Multimedia Company, "Gafla" has Vinod Sharawat, a familiar face on the small screen, in the lead role.


"I play the big bull. My character is inspired by Harshad Mehta's scams and his life from the rags to riches," said Sharawat, who was seen as Karisma Kapoor's husband in "Zubeida".


The film also features Shruti Ulfat, Purva Parag and Vikram Gokhale. It has music by Kartik Shah.
