Jackie Shroff inaugurates BEST's eco-friendly buses

Mumbai, July 4 (IANS) Mumbaikars will now be able to commute long distances to offices and back home in style in the air-conditioned comfort of eco-friendly BEST buses launched by Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff here Sunday.


The BEST's new Green Bus Express Services from Borivli to Colaba and Borivli to Bandra-Kurla Complex, would help decongest choked roads and yet afford a comfortable and fast journey.


"I urge people to patronize these Green Bus Express services to reach their destinations faster, comfortably and cheaply," said Jackie.


The brainchild of North Mumbai Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam, the CNG bus services were launched as part of his "North-Mumbai - Go Green" campaign.


"These services will reduce pollution, bring down traffic congestion and has the potential to keep a large number of private cars off the roads for the benefit of the people," Nirupam said on the occasion.


The air-conditioned buses would offer on-board television entertainment, music, vend newspapers and magazines, drinking water, snacks and beverages and other such services for the 45-km journey from Borivli-Colaba and the 25-kms route from Borivli-Bandra Kurla Complex.


Unlike the regular BEST services, the Green Bus Expresses would ply over all the flyovers in Mumbai and the Rajiv Gandhi Bandra-Worli Sea Link, enabling good savings in time.


Depending on the public response, the services would be gradually extended to other routes in the city.
