Only mainstream cinema for me, says Sushma Reddy

New Delhi, June 6 (IANS) Model-turned-actress Sushma Reddy is set to make an onscreen splash as a village belle with Priydarshan's "Chup Chup Ke" and wants to work only in mainstream movies.

"I am open to anything in mainstream films. With the arrival of new directors, scripts are changing so much that there is scope for everybody. But off beat films are not my main focus," said Sushma who made her way into Hindi films last year with Vivek Agnihotri's thriller "Chocolate".

She played a journalist in Agnihotri's film and carried her glamorous image however Priyadarshan transforms Sushma into a simple village girl madly in love with Shahid Kapur who is running after Kareena Kapoor.

"It's an interesting love triangle with real twists and turns... has complicated comedies and lots of confusion too," she told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

Success and Shushma go hand in hand. Before taking a plunge into Bollywood, she proved her mettle both in the modelling world and television industry.

Apart from Kareena and Shahid, "Chup Chup Ke" boasts of big names like Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty but Sushma is least worried about her position in the film.

"I am not worried about my place in the film. It is a privilege for me to work with Priyadarshan. I am happy with my role."

When asked why she is not seen in the promotional pieces of the film, she said: "It is a huge ensemble cast and producers have their set of promotional thoughts where we can't interfere."

Looks wise Sushma doesn't fit the bill of a typical Bollywood actress but she is determined to carve a niche for herself with her unconventional looks.

"Two years ago I was hesitant to enter cinema. I knew that switch over was a very tough task because I don't have a conventional face. But things have changed now and there is a place for everyone."

She rules out any kind of sibling rivalry between her and her younger sister Sameera who stepped into filmdom long before she did.

"Our approach is different. We don't interfere in each other's professional life. Our professional tracks are different. One agenda is to give happiness to each other. Sameera gives me tips on grooming and I help her with styling."

"We fight over stupid things like any other siblings but we never fight for roles or producers."

Sushma's priorities are very clear.

"Cinema is my number one priority because it takes a lot of time. Television has definitely taken a back seat right now and as far as modelling goes, I would like to endorse a product as its brand ambassador."

When asked about her dream project she said: "I am a huge fan of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Having him as the director and Saif Ali Khan as my co-star could be my dream team. 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' is my favourite Hindi film so far."

Sushma is making slow but steady growth. She is working on another project called "Big Bazaar".

"The film is about the life of a mill worker. It revolves around a family and I am a part of the family. There is no romance in the film. I have one more commitment to Puneet Issar."
