Jammu, Aug 1 (IANS) Fans of Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt here are praying for his early release from jail and even holding 'yagnas' or fire rituals to pray that he gets bail from the apex court.

Sanjay Dutt was sentenced to six years in prison by a court in Mumbai in connection with the 1993 serial bombings.

The Nami Dogri Sanstha and Suraya Productions - two organisations associated with film making in Jammu and Kashmir - were joined by several fans of Sanjay for a special yagna in Bakshi Nagar area Wednesday to pray that their hero's bail application in the Supreme Court is accepted.

"He has already suffered a lot. He should be freed," said Rahul Mahajan, a fan.

"Look at how Sanjay Dutt's 'Gandhigiri' has transformed things and diverted the youth energy to peace rather than violence," he said, referring to Sanjay's role in the superhit "Lage Raho Munnabhai".

Jammu has a long association with the Dutt family. Sanjay Dutt's actor-politician father Sunil Dutt culminated his peace journey in this city, while his sister Priya Dutt paid a visit to all the shrines in Jammu during her visit last year.

Sanjay Dutt had visited the Vaishno Devi shrine when he was released after spending 16 months in prison earlier.

"I hope our prayers are answered," said Sumriti Sharma, another Sanjay Dutt fan.
